Austrians fear the return of Borat
ANTARA News (English version), indonesian national news agency, brought a report about the fear of effects of the Bruno movie to the Austrian image in the world.
Similar panic spreads among Austria’s tourism marketers, who fear that the gay fashionista, Bruno, will trigger images of a country brimful of Nazis instead of the advertised mountains, blue lakes and pretty girls in Dirndl folk costumes.
Well, somehow I fear (just) the mountains, blue lakes and Dirndl folk costumes destroy the image of our country as well, or build up a very onesided opinion.
There are also suggestions how Austria could react to the movie:
Of course, some argue that Austria could follow the Kazakh example and send its politicians on missions to reassure the international community that holding hands is not a criminal offence for men in Austria.
Another option might be to openly admit that “Yes”, Austria does have a problem with its past, but the nation is dealing with it and so earn extra brownie points among moviegoers.
Tips for not getting caught by Bruno
Because Borat was not well-known enough by a lot of people, he could easily do his thing in the US. Now Cohen is well known and a lot of people know Bruno, before they even started shooting the movie. Some (or most?) people don’t want to be a “star” of the movie (like my favourite, Pastor Quinn) and therefor twincities.com released some advices for avoiding to get into the movie:
- Avoid the man in the front-page photo.
- If someone asks you to sign a release so you can appear in a film, use caution.
- Consider saying “no.”
- Don’t get drunk with strangers.
- If you are racist, homophobic or sexist, keep it to yourself.
Funkyzeit mit Bruno Soundtrack
As some people might wonder which psychedelic rave sounds are guiding the Funkyzeit mit Bruno clips here comes the answer: it’s the song “Crank it up” from the (once) very popular techno band “Scooter“.
The song was produced in 1996 and is featured on the “Our happy hardcore” CD (which you still can get at Amazon, even new CDs are available):
Amazon let’s you listen to the first 30 seconds of the track. On the Scooter homepage you’ll also find the intro as listen sample. To download it you’ll have to allow popups to be opened first and then you’ll be able to download it for € 0.99 from the “Scooter Artist Shop”.
If the “Scooter Artist Shop” still is not fancy enough for you then you might be served best at the austriangaytv.at orgy shop.
UPDATE 07/14/2009:
Sorry, but the download links stopped working. You can get the fabulous soundtrack at Amazon directly:
Cohen highest paid actor for Bruno
Daily Mail proclaimed two days ago that the man behind Bruno, Sacha Baron Cohen, is the highest paid actor of UK after selling the rights for the Bruno movie to Universal Studios:
Sacha Baron Cohen has become Britain’s highest paid actor after securing himself a salary in excess of £16 million for his next film.
The wage is based on a one-off payment of around £7 million for the rights to his new movie Bruno, plus a hefty ‘back-end’ deal which will see Baron Cohen pocket 15 per cent of box office takings.
